To demonstrate the impact the first 18 years has on the remainder of a person’s life,
ClassroomProducts.com has developed the concept of “The Living Rope”.
Children and young adults have trouble seeing the whole picture. They don’t realize how much
life remains after High School, and how the decisions they make now affect more than 75% of
their life.
To make a living rope you will need a 100 ft. rope. Simply color (wrap with colored tape, etc.)
the first 18 feet, and you have your “Living Rope”. A 100 ft. rope gives the best impact, but
you can use a 50 ft. rope, coloring the first 9 ft. A 25 ft. rope, coloring the first 4 ½ ft. A 10’
rope, coloring the first 21 1/2 inches.
The colored portion represents the first 18 years of life. The remaining rope shows how much
life remains.
Explain to your students . . .
Making good grades now, could provide you with a built-in swimming pool 30 feet down the
rope. Now they have 70 feet to enjoy it!
Developing a good work ethic and student character could get you your first $1,000,000 half
way down the rope. You have 50 feet left to spend that Million!
Good exercise habits your first 18 feet will make you look your best, allowing you to marry a
supermodel at 25. That gives you 75 feet to show them off!
Becoming better learners with great values, pride, and integrity will allow your students to
better enjoy the rest of their long life.
The first 18 feet are so important, yet such a small part of the entire rope.
A "study carrel" environment is a tried and true process to increase student focus"
One of the small pleasures in life is to find a quiet spot, relax in a comfortable chair and read a book. There are those among us, however, that
do not require the solitude or quiet. They can read in a busy airport or in a noisy restaurant. Chances are, most people have a preference
about which environment they desire for maximum enjoyment of the written word. In a school setting, students should have the same choice.
All students are familiar with the library and know the importance placed on “quiet” in this area. What may come as a surprise to educators is
that librarians are privy to Free Teacher Resources and inside information about the environment within the library. The secret is this – study
carrels. All public libraries and institutions of higher learning offer these quiet zone areas for reading and study. They spend large amounts of
money to provide these individualized spaces because they are extremely effective for learning.
Dr. Arthur W. Hafner, Dean of University Libraries at Ball State University, states, “Our libraries offer a large number of study tables and
comfortable chairs throughout for both individual and collaborative study. Some are in large open spaces and surrounded by other study
tables. Others are arranged in groups of two or three, and some carrels stand-alone for private or small group use. Informal questioning of
students reveals that they enjoy studying, learning, and collaborating in an environment where others are doing the same.”
During a student’s early years in kindergarten, elementary and middle school it is vital that they develop strong reading and language skills.
Most libraries at these levels only offer large tables or desks, mostly due to budget constraints. ClassroomProducts.com has the solution with
Free Teacher Resources and their inexpensive, portable study carrels. Kenny Kiskis from ClassroomProducts.com states, “Libraries have used
study carrels for years knowing their capability of keeping noise levels down, and giving user’s privacy and a better environment for focusing
on their work.”
Regardless of the grade level, students should have study carrel spaces to read and learn. In the library setting this is particularly important to
fostering a love of books and a feeling of success during the reading process. The study carrels offered by ClassroomProducts.com will match
the needs of the learners and the budget of school.
